Darn It! and Mending Knits

Instructor: Merike Saarniit       Class Capacity: 25
Class Level: All Levels

Description ~ Darn It! and Mending Knits

First, we'll learn and practice the best way to darn holes that avoids  the uncomfortable ridges resulting from other darning instructions. We'll also cover how to avoid darning (at least for a while). While darning is most often used for sock repair (Superwash merino wears out fast!), there are times we want invisible repairs.  Mending holes in sweaters or hats can be done in a way that is virtually invisible when you know how. And you will!

Materials Needed ~ Darn It! and Mending Knits

The two homework swatches.  A darning needle (large eye, blunt tip).  Two double pointed needles in a size smaller than used for swatch.  At least 1/2oz medium colored worsted weight yarn.

Homework ~ Darn It! and Mending Knits

Prepare TWO stockinette (knit on one side, purl on the other) swatches, 4x4, with a light colored worsted weight yarn. Begin and end each swatch with two garter ridges. Begin and end every row with 3 knit stitches for garter selvedges.
